Type hints & clean code
Type hints describe intended input and output types. Python does not enforce them automatically at runtime. Use clear names, small functions and docstrings to explain purpose. A type checker can catch mismatches before running.
Hinglish mein samjhein
Type hints intended types batate hain; Python runtime par automatically enforce nahi karta. Clear names, chhote functions aur docstrings likho. Type checker mismatches dhoondta hai.
Practice: 5.0 ka ek aur price jodo aur total 35.5 print karo.
A small Python example
def total(prices: list[float]) -> float:
"""Return the total price."""
return sum(prices)
print(total([10.5, 20.0]))The browser playground runs real Python with Pyodide. Use sample variables instead of interactive input(). Browser package support differs from desktop Python.
Try this example in the Python playground →Practise this idea
Include another price 5.0 and print a total of 35.5.
Check answer & explanation
def total(prices: list[float]) -> float:
"""Return the total price."""
return sum(prices)
print(total([10.5, 20.0, 5.0]))The reusable total() sums the three supplied prices. 10.5 + 20.0 + 5.0 is 35.5; the type hints describe the intended types.

Check your understanding
Are hints enforced automatically at runtime?
Check the quiz answer
No
Hints are metadata for readers and tools; Python does not automatically validate them.
